From our
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor review:
'
I have been thoroughly entertained by Shadow of Mordor. It's superbly presented. Its myriad systems, both borrowed and built, are delicately sewn together. Most of all though, its shown me something which I have genuinely never seen before in a game, and I expect that, as Monolith borrow from Batman and Assassin's Creed, that we'll be utterly exhausted by Shadow of Mordor's nemesis system once the games industry is finished with it.'
For this game, we use the highest possible preset, 'Ultra', at 1080p and 1440p, although we drop down to 'Very High' for 4K to ease the pressure slightly - this drops the Shadow Quality, Texture Quality and Ambient Occlusion settings by one notch each. We test using the game's built-in benchmark with a 35 seconds FRAPS recording - enough to capture pretty much the entire scene.
